In 1892 Stone Group was founded, up until that time A.C Stone's work had almost exclusively been the maintenance and decorating of big houses in the Down's area of Bristol. The reputation that had been established for craftsmanship remains un-changed aftr 100 years. Around the turn of the century still concentrating of quality the firm expanded into general building contracts.
1902 - 1922
At this time electrical and plumbing stores were combined since the firm's plumbers were all trained in electrical installations - a logical follow-on from gas lighting which had been done by plumbers. Painting and Decorating still remained an important part of the business. The later years saw a decline in building work as men were called away to fight in World War 1
1922 - 1952
This was a time of considerable growth, the company was established as one of the ten largest local building companies in Bristol. During the second World War the company was heavily involved in both war damage and in the war efforts including the construction of air-fields in teh Cotswolds. In the post war years the company played its part in re-building Bristol, to meet the demands of the housing market the concept of the pre-fab was evolved and the company had the first showpeice in Bristol on Queen Square.
1952 - to date
The company continued to grow and expanded into projects for Bristol University, Bristol Grammer School, major construction projects for Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals. The company established its presence in the design and build market at the SWEB Head office extension, fruther growth has lead to Stone BCI as it is today an established Commercial refurbishment company able to reflect accurately on our expertise and experience.
